The Mount's Prayer on the Feast of the Annunciation

Dear Members of The Mount Community,

In the words of Pope Francis, “I would propose that all Christians join their voices together to heaven,” at 12 noon on Wednesday, March 25 and pray the Our Father for healing in our world. How appropriate to call us to pray together on the Solemnity of the Annunciation, when Gabriel was sent by God to Mary!

Mary was an adolescent—greatly troubled by the angel’s greeting! So many of us are troubled today with the news of the Coronavirus and the apparent lack of answers. Could we emulate Mary, listen to God’s voice? We may not experience an Angel, but in our quiet “at home” time, do we listen and can we hear “nothing will be impossible for God.”

Let us remember Mary’s response, she opened herself to God’s voice and said “yes.” Mary knew she was not alone, nor are we, since we are together in spirit and in prayer. In response to the pope's invitation, Mount students, faculty, and staff will join together tomorrow on this Feast of the Annunciation and pray the Lord's Prayer.

May God Creator bless us,
May God Redeemer heal us,
And may God the Holy Spirit fill us with light.
Amen.

In prayer, faith, and love,

Sister Fran Sullivan, OP '60
