Sister Fran Sullivan OP ’60 Arcade at MSDA

On Friday, November 10, 2017, over 350 members of the Mount community gathered together to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of Mount St. Dominic Academy at the beautiful Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park. In addition to the commemoration of this major milestone, the gala evening paid special tribute to Head of School, Sister Fran Sullivan, OP, in honor of her years of dedication and leadership. Sister Patrice Werner, OP, Prioress of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Caldwell, began the emotional tribute with stories of Sister Fran as a child including her enthusiasm for life and her early tendency toward mischief.

Continuing the tribute, Monica Perkowski ’93, Gala Chair and member of the Board of Trustees, shared with the guests that the second floor walkway connecting the classrooms to the chapel that “…reminds us of the underlying Dominican pillars that shape our education” will be named the “Sister Fran Sullivan, OP ’60 Arcade.” To further memorialize the Mount’s milestone, Monica announced the creation of the 125th Anniversary Society with the goal of raising $125,000 in support of the financial assistance program to help “ensure the next generation of Mount graduates.”

In an effort to surprise Sister Fran, the early stage of this campaign was kept very quiet. Donors pledged gifts of $1,000 or more to the 125th Anniversary Society received a lasting acknowledgment with name recognition on the beautiful plaque that hangs prominently in the Sister Fran Arcade. This special opportunity, a separate campaign from the Mount Fund, concluded at the end of our 125th year – on December 31, 2017.
