An MSDA Class of 1984 Alumna was a special guest in Journalism class.
A staff and freelance journalist for more than 25 years, Tish Durkin ’84 has written for a variety of publications including the New York Observer, the National Journal, the Atlantic and Rolling Stone to name a few. Recalling her days embedded in Iraq when she'd be drinking tea one minute and dodging bombs the next, illustrated Ms. Durkin's point that there is no such thing as a typical day as a journalist! Her advice to budding journalists? Always have intellectual humility, decide before you write -- is it "news" and is it "worthy" -- and embrace rejection (because the worst that could happen is you'd be ignored, which is what's already happening if you haven't tried!)
