MSDA recognized the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the International Day of the Girl Child. The Mount is proud to share that we have been involved since the first officially commemorated day by the United Nations on October 11, 2012. Over the past decade, our students have had the privilege of joining together at assemblies and hearing from keynote speakers, making great strides in elevating voices and bringing attention to pressing issues that girls face. We join so many organizations and schools in the education and empowerment of girls.
In the initiative for the International Day of the Girl - 11 Days of Action, MSDA students coordinated the livestream for Day 7. They moderated the discussion on Climate Change with students from Zimbabwe and India. View the recording.
Students also had the opportunity to participate in the 2022 Girls Speak Out Summit, organized by The Working Group on Girls at the UN. This day is used to celebrate achievements for girls over the past 10 years, but also to hold Member States and organizations accountable for the gaps that remain. The event featured presentations by girls in person and remotely, and attendees heard what girls need and pledged to partner with them and key stakeholders in finding sustainable solutions to issues that girls face and ensure their rights are upheld.
