Alumnae and current parents joined us on Career Day to share career expertise with The Mount. Students attended sessions to learn about the unique path that presenters have taken to achieve their personal career success. The morning began with a beautiful sampling of musical and vocal talent, an inspirational talk from a career coach, and a reflection on how The Mount has been influential in the life of an alumna.
The opening of Career Day was shared by three contributors: Karen Levandoski ’09, a recent graduate of the John J. Cali School of Music at Montclair State University, Laura Berman Fortgang, Life Coach, and Meghan Doyle Zimmerman ’92, Monmouth County Prosecutor. Karen Levandoski performed an aria. Her magnificent soprano voice filled the performing arts space with opera music. She also played piano and sang a selection from her concept album. Next in the order of presenters was Laura Berman Fortgang, a life coach who shared her story of finding her career path and discovering along the way that,
“Nothing is a waste – every experience
will teach you something.”
Concluding the address, Meghan Doyle Zimmerman fondly recalled her days at The Mount. She wondered where the payphone was (Meghan called her parents many times from that phone booth and stated that students today don’t know how fortunate they are to have handy technology!) and marveled at changes and improvements in the facilities at MSDA. She shared that a Mount education has given her an attitude that,
“I can do anything.”
She told the girls to let the rumor about “nuns being hard” to continue…an education at a Catholic school carries great respect. She is grateful for the gift of the Mount education she received and grateful for her parents’ sacrifice in sending her to Mount St. Dominic. In her conclusion she welcomed the students into a greater Mount family – as graduates of MSDA, they all share a common bond and will be connected for a lifetime.
