Mount St. Dominic Academy encourages every member of our school to develop and share her talents by participating in some of the many extracurricular activities that we offer. The Mount consistently achieves recognition for our students’ accomplishments and awards.

In recent months, our students received the following recognition for their accomplishments:

  • On Dec. 8, Jaclyn Natoli ’11 received three volunteer awards for raising money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and was the only teenager to receive the Youth Volunteer Award this year during the annual chapter luncheon and meeting.
  • Stasia Rogacki ’10 was one of only 24 students in the nation selected to attend the Civic Leadership Academy of Civil air Patrol in Washington, D.C. During this weeklong event, she will meet with officials from the State Department, Congressional staffers and Supreme Court legal scholars. The academy culminates with a visit to Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen’s office to deliver the Civil Air Patrol’s annual report to Congress.
  • On Nov. 2, four Mounties, Meredith Testa’10, Myra Reyes ’10, Elizabeth Centanni ’10 and Nicole Karrs ’11 were among more than 100 student volunteers to participate in the Hand in Hand Festival. This carnival-like day is designed to provide entertainment for developmentally challenged guests and is sponsored by the Archdiocese of Newark Youth and Young Adult Ministry.
  • Jessica Pavel ’10 spearheaded a drive to collect baby food and diapers for The Nurturing Place, a part of the York Street Project in Jersey City, where Jessica volunteered during the summer. This fall, she succeeded in collecting six cases of baby food, four cases and 39 packs of diapers, four cases and 16 shopping bags full of baby wipes and nine cases of juice.
  • Brianne Cunningham’09, Colleen Cunningham ’11 and Rafaella DeMartinis ’11 volunteered at the Shillelagh Club of West Orange’s celebration for the participants of Project Children. Project Children is an organization that pairs children from Northern Ireland with sponsoring families in America to give the children a break from the political tensions and violence in their home country. The Mountie volunteers spent the day leading fun activities for the children to enjoy.
  • Emilie Stewart ’10 and Allison Zabady ’10 were among the 400 national and international students selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine held this summer in Boston.
  • Kirsten Svane ’09 and Cara Giordano ’09 attended Brain Camp at Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania. The camp is run by professors in the biology department to encourage students’ interest in neuroscience.
  • Allison Brand ‘09 attended classes for six weeks this summer at Ithica College in New York. She studied business management and critical writing and earned six college credits.
  • Jessica Pavel ’10 attended the National Student Leadership Conference for Law and Advocacy in Washington, D.C. last summer. Students must be nominated and accepted to attend this program which offers workshops and classes on topics pertaining to the judicial process including evidence, opening and closing statements, case-building, conflict resolution, impeachment, negotiations, public speaking and conflict resolution.
  • Lauren Marazzi ’12 attended Music Composition Camp at Westminster Choir College in Princeton last summer. She was one of a dozen students who spent a week analyzing the music of post-tonal composers and composing their own pieces. The week culminated in a performance of the student compositions.
  • Sarah Talmadge ’12 attended a three week Zoology program at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island, where she spent time doing anatomical dissections last summer.
  • The Mount’s literary magazine, Golden Fleece, won First Place with Special Merit from the American Scholastic Press making 2007-2008 the ninth year in a row we have earned this title.
  • The Argosy, our school newspaper, won First Place with Special Merit in the 2007-2008 American Scholastic Press Association’s newspaper competition.
  • Lumen, our school yearbook, won First Place with Distinction in the American Scholastic Press Association’s 2007-2008 yearbook competition.
