Last Sunday Seton Hall Prep’s Baseball Program hosted the team’s 5th Annual Winter Games Carnival for developmentally delayed adults and children. The 98 baseball program members were joined by Prep student volunteers and students from Mt. St. Dominic’s to welcome 85 guests for an afternoon of activities and games in Tracey Gym and the school’s Dining Hall. The event was spearheaded by senior players Nick Diaz, Tyler Kaufman and Nick Maldonado, along with Coach Mike Sheppard and Director of Service Learning Vinnie McMahon. The day’s activities were dotted with a number of happy reunions among guests from Camp New Day and the ARC of Essex with Prep players and coaches, as many have attended the team’s fall and winter carnivals and clinics for years.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Seton Hall Prep’s sixth annual Winter Carnival for the special needs community was a huge success on Jan. 13. The event was co-hosted by legendary NJ baseball coach Mike Sheppard and his SHP baseball team, alongside Vincent McMahon, a lifelong advocate of the intellectual/developmental disability community, the founder of Camp New Day and a co-founder of Camp Fatima with his SHP Campus Ministry Team.
Since the beginning of the school year, 12 different committees of Seton Hall Prep and Mount Saint Dominic student volunteers have been preparing and planning for the Winter Carnival. There were 25 games set-up in the SHP gym, and 25 different arts and crafts/board games set up in the cafe. There were also prizes, entertainment and more.
