International Day of the Girl 2018
Sister Honora Werner, OP ’53 presented at MSDA Day of the Girl. Her message pointed out that women have many biblical female role models to support us. The women in Jesus’ life had great faith and never faltered in presenting their needs, believing in God’s power to assist us. Women were also incredible helpers and apostles.
MSDA students collaborated and organized for quotes to be shared throughout the day:
“I raise up my voice—not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard…we cannot succeed when half of us are held back.” ―Malala Yousafzai
The words of Malala demonstrate how we must utilize our voices in order to speak on behalf of those who do not have the opportunity. As women become prominent voices in today’s society, we must use our gift to open this right for others.
“Feminism isn’t about making women strong. Women are already strong. It’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength.” —G.D. Anderson
The feminist cause enhances the power of women. It changes world perspective and shows the world what women are capable of.
“Women belong in all places where decisions are being made… It shouldn’t be that women are the exception.” —Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Females in leadership positions are rapidly increasing. Through this movement, women are helping provoke change. Many women in these scenarios will become a societal norm.
“Women are leaders everywhere you look—from the CEO who runs a Fortune 500 company to the housewife who raises her children and heads her household. Our country was built by strong women, and we will continue to break down walls and defy stereotypes.” —Nancy Pelosi
Throughout history, women have roles as leaders, whether it be in the home or in the business world. They enact change and break gender roles through their daily actions and mold the way for women in the future
