The Mount’s write-up can be seen below:
3-Mount St. Dominic (11-5-2) at 2-DePaul (15-1), 7 p.m.
Mount St. Dominic has stood out ever since it beat defending Non-Public B champion Montclair Kimberley earlier this season. The Lions also picked up an impressive win over Nutley during the year to win the Liberty Division of the Super Essex Conference. Grace Mayo has anchored a defense that hasn’t given up much ground this year. The offense only has one double-digit scorer, so Mount St. Dominic will need its defense to have another strong performance on Tuesday. Mount St. Dominic got out of the quarterfinals with a 1-0 win and a similar result is what it will be looking for against DePaul.
DePaul has been known as a defensive team the last few years, but this year’s version has some serious offensive pop. DePaul had seen two players total score double-digits goals in the last five years. The trio of Bryana Pelayo, Jazlyn Oviedo and Victoria Carnevale all have 10 or more scores already this year. That’s a complete change in offensive philosophy for DePaul and it’s working. Carnevale moved up from defense to play on the attack and that just proved DePaul wanted its best foot forward on offense. It was worked wonder and that offensive uptick led DePaul to its first-ever Passaic County title. Now, DePaul has its sights set on a North, Non-Public A championship.
