The high school girls’ basketball season is in full swing as local teams compete against both county and conference rivals and the Essex County Tournament begins this week.
West Essex (11-4) received the 10th seed and will take on seventh-seeded Bloomfield Tech in the first round of the Essex County Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 10. Fourteenth-seeded James Caldwell (9-6) will face the winner of Cedar Grove, the 19th seed, and Shabazz, the 26th seed, in the preliminary round on Thursday, Feb. 8. Mount St. Dominic (6-9), the 16th seed, will take on 29th-seeded North 13th Street Tech on Thursday, Feb. 1, in the play-in round.
‘Next Games Crucial’
The Knights are scheduled to face Livingston on Thursday, Feb. 1, and Mount St. Dominic on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
“Looking ahead, we still have Verona, MSDA, Livingston, and Bloomfield Tech for our conference games,” Cirello said. “It’s a race to the top with Verona, Bloomfield Tech, and us, so the next few games are crucial.”
Mount St. Dominic defeated Livingston, 37-27, on Thursday, Jan. 25. Abby Garaban scored 12 points, and Megan Robinson had 10.
The Lions were set to play Cedar Grove on Tuesday, Jan. 30. They will play Bloomfield Tech on Saturday, Feb. 3, and West Essex on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
