She shares that it has truly been an honor and a privilege to work with the young women at the Mount and help prepare them for their college years and their careers. She believes she could not have chosen a better place to work!
Ms. Hauptvogel has had many roles over the years at the Mount. She has taught every math course, except Algebra I! She taught Computer Programing and various Computer Applications courses (including desktop publishing.) Over the course of her years, Ms. Hauptvogel was Chairperson of the Mathematics Department, Director of Curriculum, Director of Technology, and most recently, is MSDA Director of Scheduling.
Students’ contributions to the world
Donna is so grateful for having the opportunity to spend time with students – she believes there are so many extraordinary students at MSDA. She is always amazed at the growth and transitions in the four years they spend with us and is so proud of their accomplishments and contributions to the world. She feels that the Mount truly does empower young women.
Two of her favorite quotes are:
“Teachers open the door but you must walk through it yourself.”
– Chinese proverb
“Math is not a spectator sport.”
Passion for travel, crochet, and reading
Traveling is one of her favorite things outside of school. She has visited just about all the National Parks from the Rocky Mountains west. She has traveled through parts of California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Utah, Hawaii, Alaska, British Columbia, and the Canadian Rockies including Banff and Jasper National Parks. She has also extensively visited the New England states and Florida, where her brother lives. Her most favorite place is the San Juan Islands in Washington State. She has also discovered a love for cruising, having been on cruises to Alaska Inside Passage, Bahamas, Bermuda, New England and Nova Scotia. Still on her bucket list is England-Ireland-Scotland-Wales and Scandinavia.
Recently Donna rediscovered a love of crocheting, thanks to two different projects here at MSDA this fall. She answered the call for making prayer shawls during the month of October for the Mount’s Pink Mass and again when the request came for handmade baby blankets and hats for premature babies at St. Barnabas Hospital in honor of the Mount’s 125th Anniversary. She laughs when she thinks she might now support Michael’s craft stores all by herself!
Also, recently Ms. Hauptvogel discovered she loves to do color-by-number pictures. She enjoys jigsaw puzzles, especially 3D, and computer games. She LOVES to read. Some favorites are books by Clive Cussler, Nora Roberts, James Rollins, Douglas Preston, and Lincoln Child. She has a lofty aspiration to read nearly 3,000 books that she has on various Kindle devices as well as printed books. Perhaps in her retirement, she’ll have the time to read them! She also loves Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, and James Bond movies as well as any movie with Nicholas Cage. Last but not least, she is a fan of the Yankees and the Giants!
